About

Jerzy Siwecki, with Tango

Who

By day I work in security engineering. Over the years that has meant detection and monitoring, incident response, threat intelligence and, lately, mostly the cloud. Before any of that I studied physics, which left me with one habit I have never shaken: I would rather measure something than argue about it.

The measuring came later, though. What pulled me in as a kid was cyberpunk and science fiction. I love Ghost in the Shell and Serial Experiments Lain as much for their philosophy as for the way they look, and the look still works on me. What I love most is a complex system whose parts work together efficiently, and I find real beauty in that. Security was my passion long before it was my job, and the lion’s share of my free time still goes into research.

Handsome Boys Computer Club is my sole proprietorship, registered in Poland (European Union). This site is the part of it that isn’t client work: research, tools and field notes, published for free. The projects are named after characters from Stanisław Lem. If you are going to name things, you might as well name them after someone who saw most of this coming.

Away from the keyboard I train Muay Thai and MMA, play records on a proper hi-fi, and spend as much time outdoors as I can with my dog, Tango, who is the indistinct shape next to me in the first portrait up there.

I also read more than is strictly reasonable, which is where the Lem comes from. If a book has stayed with you, whether science fiction or anything on how technology and power get tangled together, I would rather hear about it than almost anything else. The address below takes recommendations.

House rules

I publish only what someone else can reuse: a method, a measurement or a tool. Nothing about employers or clients, and nothing about the lab as it runs right now. Each note says in plain words what I measured, what I worked out from it and what I only suspect, and it never claims more than its evidence. When something here turns out to be wrong, I fix it in place and note the date.
